South of Market San Francisco, Winter 2008. San Francisco experiences a unique phenomenon that occurs around 8 pm at night when the marine layer has settled in for an overcast night. The breezes cease, there is an erie quiet as the noises of the busy city are absorbed and blunted by the low lying marine layer, and the endless damp cold gives way to a stillness that feels almost warm.
